Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu never bothered to recover land from encroaches because he was also a party to it.
YSR Congress Party MLA and spokesperson Ambati Rambabu said, Mr Chandrababu Naidu and his party were aware that 16,735 Field Management Books (FMBs) in 379 villages pertaining to one lakh acres were reported missing during the Telugu Desam rule, but nothing was done by the then Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The same leader was quite understandably raising a hue and cry when the YSRCP government was recovering valuable land that was in the procession of encroachers like former TDP Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao, Mr Rambabu pointed out.
Mr Chandrababu could not say that he had no knowledge about the encroachment of land during his regime because these figures were make public by the then Visakhapatnam district Collector Praveen Kumar. TDP Roads and Buildings Minister Ayyanna Pathrudu also made a reference to them in public, Mr Rambabu said.
The Revenue Department officials, in meticulous work done in the last 12 months, have uncovered the encroached 480 acres with a market value of Rs 5,082 crore and have started recovering the same from land encroachers, the party spokesman said.
TDP leaders with the support of Mr N Chandrababu Naidu encroached Wakf lands in Bheemili, Kasimkota, Gajuwaka and S Ramavaram.
The TDP leaders also encroached over 100 acres of very valuable land in Pendurthi and Anandapuram area in the name of “land polling”.
About the 39 acres the revenue officials took back from former TDP MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao the YSRCP leader said that the land recovered had a market value of Rs 670 crore. Mr Srinivasa Rao’s associates and relatives had leased out prime bits of the land to firms like L&T and HPCL to set up fabrication workshops and were enjoying the fruits.
After the recovery the former MLA was claiming that he had nothing to do with the land recovered by the revenue officials who took procession of the land and demolished all structures on them with excavators.
If Srinivasa Rao had nothing to do with the land, why were Mr Chandrababu Naidu and senior TDP leaders raising a hue and cry accusing the YSRCP government of “vendetta politics”, Mr Rambabu asked.
The erstwhile TDP government which had a vested interest in encroachment and failed to act against land grabbers, the new YSRCP government was not shirking its responsibility, Mr Rambabu said.
The Chandrababu Government which failed to fulfil its responsibility was finding fault with the YSRCP government for meeting its obligations, he pointed out.
